Music for Travel

Even before beginning a trip, On the way to the airport, I would always  plug my headset and start listening to music to set my mood and my excitement  for another journey. Here are the list of songs I listen to while on the road, on the plane, when sailing or even while packing:

1. Come Fly with me by Frank Sinatra

-Nothing beats the classic. I love Frank Sinatra and this is perfect when you’re flying.

2. Leaving on a jet plane by Chantal Kreviazuk- I’ve seen a lot of people post this as a status on Facebook. It’s a popular music for travellers.

-I know it’s a sad song but I like to sing leaving on a jet plane before aboard a plane

3. Everyday is a winding road by Sheryl Crow

-great when you hit the road. Ultimate feel good music by Sheryl Crow 🙂

4. Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows ft. Vanessa Carlton-taxi cabs are our best friend when we are in a foreign country. I know this one is not really about travelling but this song makes me feel great when I hit the road on a taxi.

5. Crusin’ by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis- So love this romantic song about cruising 🙂

6. Under the sea (Little Mermaid)- This song is playing on my head every time I snorkel or dive 🙂 I love being under the sea and this is a perfect song when you’re swimming.

7. Be our Guest (Beauty and the beast)-I’m a disney fan 🙂 I love this because I love being treated like a princess when I’m travelling. This song fits  because we are special guests when we travel.

8. What a wonderful world– I always get speechless with our world’s beauty and this song come to my mind when I’m on a nature trip.

9. Moonlight over Paris- I haven’t been to Paris but I’ll be singing this when I get there 🙂

10. I’m sailing by Rod Stewart- Another good old music that I love 🙂

11. Country Roads (Take me home, West Virginia) by John Denver- This song brings back child memories. I listen to this in the car whenever we take a road trip to the countryside.

12. Holiday by Greenday– an upbeat music that can cheer you up in an instant

13.Runaway Train by Asylum- Another great old song that you can listen to when travelling.

14. Surfin’ USA by The Beach Boys-This music come to my mind whenever I see big waves and surfers.

15. I’ve never been to me by Charlene Duncan- I know it’s not really about travelling but I just like listening to this when travelling. The lyrics mentions something like this  ” been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I’ve sipped champagne on a yacht I’ve moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed ’em what I’ve got…xxx I’ve been to paradise…xxx”

What’s on your playlist? Let me know cause I need more music for longer travelling hours on my next trip 🙂

Reasons why you should hire a Travel Agents

TAs

In this age of DIYs, many have dispensed with hiring agencies in the hope of saving more money. There is this notion that travel agencies charge too much. Well, we can’t really blame people because they  do—Like some years ago. But in order to be competitive a lot has change. You might say that you could just add it up to your pocket money instead of paying for them.  But is it really worth it? Here are the reasons why I think you should buy travel packages from agents, instead of just relying on yourself.

1. They’re cheaper than you think

If you resort to DIY (Do-it-yourself) and compare what you have pulled out from their packages, you will notice that there is really a tiny difference between the prices. The  average is like  P50 to P100 to nothing.

2. Time is Gold

First, when you wait for travel deals, so much time is wasted hanging on budget airline’s websites or reading every notifications they sent to you.

Second, most likely their promos are scheduled for at least another year, where you’re not even sure if you are be available. You risk your schedule every time you book promo fares. When you’re in rush, you should hire them too. Because if you purchase tickets for your flight this week or next month, it’s gnna be really expensive. But TAs can do magic in in purchasing cheap airline tix for you.

Third, the time you spent searching, booking and confirming a flight purchase is hilariously long. It takes at least 2 hours to book 2 people. Can you imagine how long it took me to book 8 people during our last tour in Coron. I even had this experience where when I was about to wrap up the booking, an error occurred on the website of Cebu Pacific. I will never forget, the first time I booked a flight for Boracay where I have to repeat the whole process for at least 5 times!!!

Fourth, When you’re done booking the flight, the next thing you have to do is find hotels, search where to go, or in another words, pull up a Land arrangement. You spend days doing this. It’s not really worth the effort because Travel agents can do that for you and they will know where to bring you. Well you can research where you want to go and tell them to bring you to those places or tell them which places you’re not interested to see.

3. They’ve got connections you will never have

Travel agents are connected to rest of the world. It took them decades to build these connections and it will take you a century to discover their trade secrets. They get the cheapest deals that are great and all worth it.

4. It’s safer to purchase from them

If you know an agency that can be trusted, book from them instead of booking from websites like Metrodeal and other group bookings because I heard a few bad experiences from them. Personally, there was a time when my purchase was charged double from the credit card. It took so long to refund this purchase.

5. They’re Heros

When something goes wrong, call them up and they are ready to fix your problem. If you bought a peso ticket and your flight gets cancelled, there’s nothing you can do about that. Nada! But if you purchased from TAs, they will rebook your flights and you’re more secured.

P.S.,

I am not a travel agent nor affiliated from any Travel Agents 🙂

Our Pinoy Paisanos: 16 Ways You Can Help The Philippines

Thank you so much!

I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts

131108030403-wave-typhoon-house-horizontal-gallery

Anyone who has ever worked on ships has, without a doubt, worked with dozens of Filipinos. They are our co-workers, our friends and our family.

Over the weekend our ship life paisanos were faced the devastating destruction of their home. One of the strongest storms in recorded history, Typhoon Haiyan, killed an estimated 10,000 people. To put that number into perspective combine the casualties from Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy and 9/11… and double it.

Between managers, A/V crew and random friendly faces in the staff bar, I have a long list of Filipinos who hold a special place in my heart. So as I watched the death toll climb as Typhoon Haiyan ripped through the islands, I held my breath and prayed for my friends.

The real Cost of Traveling to Batanes

Ivatanyow

How much does does it really cost to travel in Batanes? You’ve heard the rumors right. It is much cheaper to travel in some of our neighbor countries than in Batanes. Why is that? Because 1) Basco’s airport has a short runway and cannot accommodate big airplanes. 2) There’s only are only 2 airlines that flies to Batanes. One used to be Seair. I dunno what happened but Seair no longer flies to Batanes. Now it is skyjet and palexpress. There’s not much competition hence the air fare can shoot up to more than P20,000.

But the good news is, Pal express has just started flying to Batanes. Well you can say that there’s still not much of a competition but at least you now have a choice in picking schedules and comparing fares.

I think there’s a need to improve Skyjet and Pal express’    flight schedule. because Skyjet fly only once around 5:00am (to and/from Batanes) during Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  While Pal express fly also around 6:00am to Batanes and 8:00am back to Manila, 3 times a week. Hence your 3d/2n tour will be chopped off to only 2 days.

Unless you’re lucky enough to catch a seat sale, the cost of the airfare alone is the following:

Skyjet:

Palexpress (Airphil Express)

Pal Express is a bit cheaper but Skyjet accomodates more passengers. Skyjet can accomodate 90 passengers and Palexpress accomodates 76 passengers.

This is just the beginning of your expenditures because you still have to book your hotels and tour.

In our experience we purchased a package tour which includes everything including air tickets, accommodation, day tours and meals and it costs around P25,000 per pax for 3d/2n.  tour. We were grateful for the price of the package because few months earlier the price of the package was P50,000 per pax. If you opt to stay longer the cost of a 4d/3n package is P30,000.

Tip: If you want to spend a little less and you have time to do some research, do not go through travel agents here in Manila. Book your own flights (wait for a seat sale) and accommodation, then find a tour guide that is based in Batanes because the travel agents here will just book your tours with  another travel agent there which means you are paying 2 agents. Hence it is better do the job of one and to go to another agent directly.

You might ask, why did we buy a package tour if I know all these things, It is because this trip wasn’t planned at all. I didn’t have the time to do a research and look for agents, compare, prices, find hotels, present them to my mother etc.

We stayed at Batanes Seaside and our Tour guide is in Batanes is BCTA. If we didn’t go through another travel agent the cost of the package will only be P73,000 for 3 pax. We will only save around P2,000. Not much really hehe..

It is really expensive, but don’t worry because it’s all worth it. If you’re a lover of nature, culture and history, you will love it here. We wanted to stay longer but the flights were fully booked. We were not able to visit Sabtang Island, I feel the need to go back and experience Batanes. There are many unexpected things that you will see here. I suggest that you should stay for at least 4 days.

If you want an update on the latest seat sale to Batanes, Follow this Blog or like our page on Facebook. Enjoy Traveling! 🙂
